Hungarian Autoclub 2011 | VIKÁR ÉS LUKÁCS architecture studio

Striking new headquarters of the Hungarian Autoklub takes form of letter ‘A’

Vikar&Lukacs Architects Studio won the commission for this project through a competition for a new iconic 3,430 sq m headquarters of the Hungarian Autoklub. The main gesture of the building is a ribbon that wraps around the office spaces on seven floors, while articulating a letter ‘A’.

As the site is located near the Danube Bridge in Budapest local politicians requested a building that works as a point of orientation for drivers that arrive to district Ujpest. The main hall and service functions are found on the ground floor, while on the very top, under the arc is a rooftop terrace for representative meetings.

The looping strip is about 1m thick, it has a changing width and deforms as it articulates the loop. The two components of the building come back also in the material usage, the strip without openings with metal cladding, and the glass curtainwall of the wrapped building volume. Using geothermal energy system in the building helped the architects to free the rooftop from technical devices.

Moses Bridge, Netherlands /RO & AD/

When the Jews fled from the Egyptian Pharaoh, turned their prophet Moses to God and cried out for help.

And Moses said unto the people: “Do not be afraid, stand firm and see the salvationof God that He will he do now, for Egypt, which you now see, will not see more thanever.” And God said to Moses: “Wherefore criest thou unto me? Speak unto the children of Israel, so they moved.”

Go through the Red Sea for the Jews was the most vivid and crucial transition from a state of slavery in the state of a free man.

White Monolith House | lostinarchitecture 2011

In the rural Weinviertel region of Lower Austria individual examples of new architecture are generally introduced with caution and reticence. This makes it all the more surprising when suddenly, on a busy street in the densely built-up part of the town of Mistelbach (population 13,000), not far from the main square, you come across a white monolith that speaks a self-assured architectural language.
